Imagine an object of historical significance that needs renovation. We accept all applications and consider each one individually.
“The Future of the Past” is a socio-architectural project for restoration and renovation with meaning, initiated by the architectural bureau IK-architects. About places that already have a written history and require preservation and respect, and not thoughtless destruction in favor of a residential complex or shopping center.
“We strive to create a space for dialogue about quality and conscious restoration, a space for conversation between concerned residents, architects and the state. In partnership with activists and public organizations, the IK-architects team will develop architectural projects that will preserve the value of cultural monuments, giving them a chance to tell their story to a new generation,” - Ekaterina Yarovaya, chief architect and founder of IK-architects.
How to participate?
We are looking for objects that carry cultural and historical value, but have been abandoned by time or irresponsible attitudes. Ancient buildings, residential and public spaces and other objects that need a new approach and fresh ideas.
1. Fill out a short form, adding basic information about the property that needs preservation.
2. Open Call for submitting objects will be held from August 5 to October 5.
3. You can provide an unlimited number of objects by sending them separately. That is, 1 application – 1 object. The number of applications from one person is unlimited.
4. After submitting all objects, we will contact each applicant separately and arrange an introductory meeting to understand the object in more detail.
5. The result of all meetings will be a detailed study of each location in collaboration with architects, activists and historians and the development of visual concepts for conscious revitalization of the location.
VILNA SCHOOL
The IK-architects team is already implementing charitable initiatives for restoration and renovation within the framework of the social project “Vilna School”. This is a project to restore Ukrainian schools damaged as a result of the actions of the aggressor country.
As of July 2024, IK-architects signed a memorandum with the Kharkov City Council, the city mayor and the Hephaestus Charitable Foundation for the restoration of the destroyed Lyceum No. 47 of the city of Kharkov.

WHO ARE WE?
IK-architects is an architectural bureau founded in Kharkov in 2012. We are engaged in the development of architectural projects and interior design of residential spaces, commercial real estate and HoReCa. In 2022, we decided to contribute to the restoration of Ukraine and founded the Vilna School project for the restoration of destroyed educational institutions. Our goal is to guide the design and construction processes towards regenerative practices and principles of conscious restoration.
Therefore, if you are “pained” by the illegal destruction of monuments and irresponsible development, as we are, you can join the conscious restoration project on a volunteer basis.
